Hello Lovelies,
Last month we talked about Cancer and Ruby. This month we will be discussing Leo and Peridot, which happen to be my birthstone and zodiac sign!
Leo is from July 23rd – August 22nd
Leo is a very prideful but protective person, especially around those who are within their inner circle. They are a warm and charismatic soul typically seen at the head of most social situations. With such a fiery personality it comes as no shock that they are a fire sign, ruled by the sun.
Leo, also known as Leon, translates to “Lion,” in Latin. A very fitting name due to their perceived aura of brute strength and ability to instill a level of trepidation in others. In many myths Leo is seen as a great Lion or beast.
In Greek Mythology Leo is known as the Nemean Lion, a fierce creature that terrorized the people in Nemea, invulnerable to all weapons. That was, until Hercules defeated the great beast with his own two hands. When the Lion was vanquished Zeus returned him to the stars as the constellation Leo.
In Sumeria Leo, also known as Urgula was believed to be represented by Humbaba, a monster defeated by the great Gilgamesh.
However, in Egyptian Mythology they worshiped the constellation of Leo. Also referred to as “Knem,” due to its presents in the sky during the flooding of the Nile River. The people interpreted it as a gift from the earth, signifying a plentiful harvest for the year. The Ruler of Egypt, Tutankhamen’s gold throne depicted the lion due to the people’s respect of the Leo constellation.
Peridot is paired with the zodiac Leo due to its protective and cleansing qualities. Peridot is known to aid in one’s transformation by encouraging change, Leo’s kryptonite. By allowing them to focus on their true path ahead in hopes of alleviating self-doubt. As well as soothing their unhealthy need to have control over all aspects of their life.
Next month we will be discussing the zodiac sign Virgo and the crystal Sapphire.
