Last month we talked about Gemini and Rainbow Moonstone. This month we will be discussing Cancer and Ruby.
Cancer is from June 21st – July 21st
Cancer is a nurturing and kind soul who holds a uniquely deep bond with their emotions. Born under the moon they are fondly referred to as the true, “moon children,” of the zodiac. Some speculate that the influence of the moon allows them to care deeply about the people in their lives. Often times causing them to become particularly protective.
In Latin the word Cancer translates to “crab,” which are known to be resilient, and protective. A fact that is shown in a few of the myths Cancer is represented within.
In Egypt Cancer is represented by a scarab beetle while in Mesopotamia, Cancer is represented by a turtle. In both myths the creature is depicted ‘pushing’ the sun across the heavens to initiate the summer solstice. Proving its resilience and determination.
However, in Greek mythology Cancer (Carcinus) is based on The Giant Crab, Karkinos, the crab crushed under foot of Herakles. Within the Myth Karkinos attacks Herakles to aid the Hydra, in doing so ends up crushed by the demigod. The Goddess Hera rewards Karkinos’s efforts by returning its remains to the stars as the zodiac sign Cancer.
The zodiac Cancer is a resilient friend who, from time to time, requires a nudge in the right direction. Which is why ruby is the perfect crystal to heal and inspire self-confidence. Ruby also encourages a Cancer to live fully and embrace what life may bring. Constantly feeling such deep emotions can be exhausting, which is why it's important to take care of yourself.
